How To Persue Your Career

Step 1

Complete your intermediate

You will have to take up science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as your core subjects in your 12th grade.

Step 2

Earn bachelors degree

After that do your Bachelor's degree from a recognised university.You can take up subjects like physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology etc. in your Bachelor's. However, it  is suggested that in your Bachelor's you do courses in aerospace or aeronautical engineering and avionics and then your Master's and Ph.D in the same.

Scores criteria

Try scoring the highest possible score in all the competitions or academic examinations you give. Since there are multiple people applying for this and this job is in huge demand, the chances of you getting in are very low and thus to maximise your chances, you should secure maximum possible marks.

Step 4

Join ISRO/NASA

After 12th you can join the ISRO by giving the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). After successfully completing 12th, you should apply for admission to the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), one of India's top universities. This is one of the finest methods. For joining NASA will have to appear for the NASA Space Physical.

Get an internship

Try getting an internship in these fields so that you know the basics of the field work involved, it will give you the required experience to pacify the needs of the job and will further enhance your chances of employability.

Astronaut training program

It will be advisable to either join the Air Force or Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) prelimnarily and then join an astronaut training programme. This will give you the required field training.

Physical and emotional requirements

1- The candidate must demonstrate mental, cognitive and personality capabilities to enable him to work in highly demanding physical, social and intellectual environment.

2- The candidate  should be physically fit. Physical fitness is very important for this job at it is a very physically demanding job.

3- You should have good communication skills and a hold over the English language.

4- You should have the ability to work under challenging and high pressure situations. You should be a team person.
